Kundan, pearl, mirror and kori shell: the work on our bangles

What each kind of work on a silk thread bangle looks like, which occasions it suits, and the sets that have it.

Every set starts the same way: silk thread wound tightly over a rigid base. What makes one set different from another is the work set into the thread.

Kundan

Flat, faceted stones set into the thread, catching the light from every angle. Kundan is the heaviest-looking work and appears on most of our bridal sets, often with pearl. Sets with kundan include Sharada, Ruponti, Konokprova and Jolpori. Keep perfume away from them: alcohol loosens the glue behind the stones.

Pearl

Rows or clusters of small pearls. Pearl softens a set, and on its own makes a lighter, whiter look, as on Sharada Mukta and Shuvra. With kundan, it is the classic bridal combination, as on Roktojoba Mukta.

Mirror

Small mirrors in the thread, for a brighter, playful shine that suits the holud and festive evenings. Sets with mirror work include Abha, Chondroma, Mouri and Niladri.

Kori shell

Small kori (cowrie) shells set into the thread, for a lighter, more casual look. See Kori Kabbo, Shongkho Kori, Shongkhomala and Roktojoba.

Many sets combine two or three kinds of work. Each set’s page lists exactly what is on it, and the Style filter in the shop shows only the kind you want.
